“I believe that all art is ultimately about human beings and the human experience. While that’s a very broad statement, it has led me to focus my paintings on people, actual human beings, with the occasional tongue-in-cheek tangent into Surrealism. My interpretations of people obviously aren’t literal portraits. I want to use the paints to dig deeper into emotional moments, explore humanity in a variety of usually colorful ways. I like the old story about the blind men and the elephant, each of them using touch to explore the elephant in separate areas, struggling to interpret the whole from their limited explorations. I am one of those blind men. On the technical side, I mostly use acrylic paints on board, although I occasionally throw in other media such as crayons, ink, and resins.”
